L'avis de Gault&Millau
C’est en 1864 qu’Alfred Gratien, déjà fondateur de Gratien & Meyer à Saumur, a créé cette maison à Épernay. En 2000, celle-ci passe aux mains de Henkell & Co., groupe allemand producteur de sekt (vin mousseux germanique). Ces champagnes ont toujours frappé par leur style distinctif grâce à un vrai parti pris : une part importante de pinot meunier pour le brut, une fermentation en fûts et l’absence de fermentation malolactique afin de renforcer la capacité de vieillissement. Effectivement, ces champagnes gastronomiques ont besoin d’une longue garde pour se révéler. Les cuvées « Memory » en témoignent divinement. Depuis 2009, le chef de cave est Nicolas Jaeger, personnage sympathique et méthodique.
