Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
Many wineries and estates are passed down from father to son or from father to daughter. At Alfred Gratien, a different kind of succession has been taking place since 1905: that of the cellar master. The first was Gaston Jaeger. He taught the trade to his son Charles, who in turn taught it to his son Jean-Pierre. For the past 20 years, Nicolas Jaeger has been carrying on what his father taught him over many years. This unique lineage is reflected in the style of the house’s champagnes, which remains consistent thanks to the knowledge, techniques, and sensibilities that only such a lineage can pass down.
