Gault&Millau's review 2025

People from all over the world come to Colmar to photograph Little Venice, an adorable group of colorful 16th-century half-timbered houses lining the Lauch River. One of these houses houses the restaurant. The departure in July 2023 of Paul Fabuel, who had joined us in February 2022, has changed all that. The promise of a two-toque cuisine gave way to a different orientation, which we tested. On the €75 menu (all the same!), the duck foie gras terrine, based on chestnuts and hay, is a fine start to the autumn season. The beautiful scallops, barely snacked and accompanied by an Orzo risotto and a mussel emulsion with "du château" saffron, are overloaded with brick pastry, a curious fashion from the 90s. The doe fillet, pleasant and precisely cooked, is underlined by a balsamic reduction and a less convincing accompaniment. The declension of popcorn, passion fruit gelato and verbena appeals for its delicate textures, melting ice cream and incredibly creamy mousse, but this pre-dessert dessert left us wanting more. It's a pity that everyone is prioritized in a corridor room, to the detriment of the comfortable, warmer room.
