Sponsored If guinguette enthusiasts are to be believed - and there are many - Chinon's guinguette offers the most beautiful setting, at the foot of the town's fortress and on the banks of the Vienne River. On closer inspection, the atmosphere is festive, especially during the lively dancing that takes place one or two evenings a week. And if you zoom in on the tables, you'll notice that service, orchestrated by Julie-Anne Gervais, is non-stop. So, at any hour of the day, you can enjoy dishes from Chef Simo Allajine, brazier-cooked rib steaks and andouillettes... and cocktails from bartender Maxime Page. "The idea is to come and have fun, but also to eat well, from starter to dessert, and at reasonable prices", stresses Serge Desazars, the restaurant's president. Sometimes, on the menu, you'll discover creations based on Touraine black truffles. And with good reason! Serge is also the owner of Baron de la Truffe (www.barondelatruffe.com ), France's first organic truffle farm, covering 65 hectares and located in Ligré, not far from the Guinguette Rabelaisienne. So that's two (very) good places to try!
