Gault&Millau's review

12.5/20
Gourmet Restaurant Since the arrival of Valentin Jozeleau in 2020, this bistro in the Robertsau district has enjoyed a new lease of life. This chef, who trained in top establishments including Gilles Goujon, has mastered the fundamentals of bistro cooking. We love Père Joze's pâté en croûte, served on the half-slice, made with game and foie gras, a jelly with a powerful taste and a texture that trembles to perfection. As a starter, the scallops, generously served as a duo, are fresh and thick, barely snacked, and the argan oil is well balanced. The highlight of the meal is the admirable 14/20 lean pavement steak, alas downgraded by the absence of sauce and a rather austere cauliflower accompaniment. We finish on a high note with the baba à la mie filante, soaked in rum and escorted by cream, both enriched with Madagascar vanilla. Areas for improvement? When you make your reservation, you don't know which room you're going to be placed in, but the feeling can be diametrically different: the warm, red-painted main room, the heart of the bistro, is far preferable to the adjoining room, which may have high ceilings but is draughty in winter. A fine cellar of wines for pleasure, also available by the glass. Vincent Jozeleau was replaced at the end of 2024 by his former second-in-command, Nicolas Perez.
