Gourmet Restaurant A young local chef, Louis Vatelier, son of one of the region's most famous pastry chefs, who has worked in some fine establishments (notably Eric Buisset's in Frichemesnil, then Guillaume Monjuré's in Palégrié), is opening an attractive new restaurant with his friends in Veules-les-Roses, which has once again become a popular weekend destination for city dwellers. This undoubtedly explains why the young chef dives so deeply into fashionable tics in his short menu (ceviche, octopus, beef tataki) when there's so much to be done to make the terroir his own. Nevertheless, this little house has a bright future, and the chef has a good hand: the beef is cooked just right and of good quality, the ceviche is a little too acidic, but fresh and well-cut, and the chocolate tart is delicious with whipped cream and cocoa nibs. Very good service from the two sisters, Marie and Madeleine, who are dynamic and bilingual, and a growing cellar with a few Norman ciders (but only one from Cauchois).
