Gault&Millau's review
Laurent Champs, the great-grandson of Désiré Vilmart, took over the estate in 1990. Two centuries earlier, his ancestor left about 2 hectares in Rilly-la-Montagne for future generations. The vineyard now comprises 11 hectares planted with Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Noir, on terroirs classified Premier Crus. All of the wines are are vinified in large oak foudres (some of which are over 40 years old) and oak barrels for 10 months. Laurent is undoubtedly one of the best vine growers and wine makers in the region. You have to taste his champagnes.
