Gault&Millau's review
Nicole Barbe Ponsardin, widowed at the age of 27, gave her letters of nobility to this house founded in 1772 by her husband, thanks to her talents as a businesswoman, her character and her technical choices. In 1987, the 393-hectare estate was acquired by the LVMH group, making it the second-largest champagne brand by volume. Cellar master Dominique Demarville, who stepped down at the end of 2019, did a remarkable job for the quantity of champagne produced each year. He was able to bring extra finesse to a vinous style due to the high proportion of pinot noir in the blends. Didier Mariotti, from Mumm, succeeds him. His latest cuvée, EBEO 2, is simply superb.
