Blanc des Millénaires
Charles Heidsieck
Gault&Millau's review
98/100
It's often said that only great years produce prestigious cuvées. Here, the magnificent 2004 (a vintage often accused of dilution) succeeds the 1995. Out go the great 1996s and 2002s (barring a few surprises). Right from the color, a brilliant gold, the cuvée appears very fresh. On the nose, notes of citrus and white fruit. On aeration, aromas of toasted bread, toasted almonds and cream appear, and the aroma evolves with each rotation of the glass. On the palate, complexity progresses further, with a touch of bubbles conveying both freshness and fullness. The length never seems to end. So, without batting an eyelid, this Blanc des Millénaires 2004 is one of the region's finest cuvées.
