Grenoble, right in the center. Push open the gate at Fantin Latour and bim! A garden tucked away like an oasis, far from scooters and saturated terraces. Here, the scent of chlorophyll and old 19th-century stone. Fun bonus: the house's gallinaceans come to scratch the pathways as if nothing had happened. It's like a La Fontaine fable reinterpreted on Instagram. The wait staff? Fresh, cool, zero fuss, it's relaxing even for the most uptight. You'll be able to choose from 3 menus ranging from €125 to €165. And there's one constant: the mountain plants and their harvesting, no doubt learned from Marc Veyrat. From the very first table, the Dauphiné region is celebrated as it should be: walnuts, cheeses, and also the little-known wines of the Grésivaudan valley, which are not lacking in interest. Hot and cold starters follow. Duos and trios of products on each plate, always well matched. Gambas, citrus and poached rhubarb, or the chef's famous vegetable garden to start. Then the big dishes: quail pot-au-feu style, or capon (the fish) which finds its traveling companion in a voluptuous poultry jus. The pre-desserts and desserts put vegetables at the heart of the plate. Apricot flirts with meadowsweet, creating a harmonious blend. A sensitive score, well written and well executed by a chef who always has a beautiful aromatic ballad to offer us on the plate. No cheating, no smoke and mirrors. Just a chef who knows how to marry flavors and send out plates that speak the dialect of the Alps in a contemporary version. Grenoble can puff out its chest: here, the walnut-gratin dauphinois duo is far surpassed!
