Gourmet Restaurant The event of the year in the winstub world is the reopening of Le Coin des Pucelles. Alexis Albrecht from Le Vieux Couvent in Rhinau and his cousin have taken over this emblematic house and restored it with great passion. They have succeeded in refreshing the decor without detracting from its soul. Every detail has been carefully considered: the warmth of the woodwork, the softness of the lighting, the cleanliness of the décor. Bouquets of flowers and candles add to the soothing, intimate atmosphere. As for the service, it's attentive, the antithesis of the commercial winstubs in the tourist districts. The "canaille" dishes have given way to enlightened bistro cuisine and Alsatian specialties revisited with brio. The mimosa eggs, a model of its kind with smoked trout and pike roe, are accompanied by large-leaf lamb's lettuce. Lovers of home-cooked dishes, we were delighted by fleischnakas revisited with venison, served in a broth reduced by cryoconcentration. A favorite of Alsatian housewives, the bouchée à la reine is served with pure butter puff pastry and herb spätzle. On the evening of our visit, the aumônière of Alsatian pears with chocolate custard was no longer available, so we opted for the classic chocolate moelleux with pear sorbet. Served warm, the bakery-quality apple tart is made the Alsatian way, with a flan. Serve with wines by the glass recommended by Pierre Ohmann. Le Coin des Pucelles, a hidden corner, but an address that won't remain confidential for long, our favorite of the year.
