Gault&Millau's review 2025

There's no mistaking this magnificent estate: La Bretesche is a château the likes of which one dreams in baronial nostalgia, and a stay that's bound to be unforgettable. This year, La Bretesche boasts a new, highly skilled chef, Frédéric Murati, who knows his way around the house, having been second-in-command to his predecessor. In just a few months, Jean-Pierre Honorin has won over a demanding clientele with a contemporary menu that's not revolutionary, but well suited to the setting: foie gras rhubarb, marinated salmon carpaccio beet ice-cream beet lemon confit, veal fillet carrot walnut and pimprenelle brioche crumble, veal jus with thyme, strawberry sorbet lemon balm dessert. Service a little stiff but diligent, classic cellar with a good selection of great labels. In April 2023, Mayeul-Enguerrand Robin takes over the kitchen.
