Gault&Millau's review 2026

Set around a pretty courtyard with Alsatian charm, this former farmhouse transformed into a small hotel complex lives its life in the fresh air of the Ried, on the edge of the Ill forest. In the dining room, adorned with Edgar Mahler paintings and designer lighting fixtures, you can savour the cuisine of Maxime Schwartz, who trained at Haeberlin and Schillinger. On Sundays, families and pensioners are delighted by the unique three-course set menu, priced at €52. Among the starters, instead of the very rustic duck terrine, whose flesh we found a little porky, we preferred the finesse of the duck foie gras terrine (extra €5), not too kneaded and with balanced spices. The back of Baïgorry trout, fresh and pan-fried with precision, is accompanied by Tarbais beans whose slight overcooking is offset by the pleasure of a creamy sauce. Accompanied by red cabbage and, above all, a full-bodied jus, the tender supreme of mallard, prepared like game, is one of those dishes we like to accompany with a characterful red wine. As this is Alsace, sweet moments are not the fifth wheel: the pistachio financier, soft as can be, is topped with a delicious white chocolate-pistachio pastry-style cream, while the chestnut tartelette baked to perfection is one of those timeless artisanal desserts. The erudite Alsatian wine list features first-rate winemakers such as Loew, Pfister, Deiss and Josmeyer.
