Gault&Millau's review
The Rodez family has been growing grapes in Ambonnay for three centuries. Since 1982, Eric Rodez, who represents the eighth generation of winemakers, now joined by his 9th generation son Mickael, has managed the 6 hectare-estate of Grand Cru located in the Montagne de Reims. The 36 plots are planted 55% in Pinot Noir and 45% in Chardonnay. These are mostly old plantations as the average age of the vines is over 30 years, some plots being over 70 years old. The use of weed killers and other chemical fertilizers is against their principles and the respect for the vines is a daily concern. They indeed explore any possibility that would allow a greater respect for the vineyard by promoting natural balance. In 2012, the Rodez estate obtained HVE (High Environmental Value) certification. The entire range is highly recommended.
