Gault&Millau's review
Founded in 1760, Lanson, one of the oldest Champagne houses, has built its reputation on a distinctive style, both vinous and lively, thanks to vinification of the base wines without malolactic fermentation. The Clos Lanson (1 ha of Chardonnay in the center of Reims), whose vines were planted on a plateau of fine chalk in 1960 and 1968, is located above the cellars. Since 2015, the likeable Hervé Dantan, who came over from Maison Mailly, has become the new cellar master following the retirement of Jean-Paul Gandon. The domaine is starting to use a little malolactic fermented wine in its blends and still offers its very fine old vintages in "Vintage Collection" versions.
