Gourmet Restaurant Issam Ayari makes a heartfelt gourmet contribution to this lively street. Originally from Morocco, he worked at Le Meurice before taking a trip to Asia. In his small, semi-open kitchens, tucked away at the back of a shallow, simply but tastefully furnished room, he offers bistro-inspired, market-driven dishes on the slate. Of course, he adds his own personal touch, reflecting his own history. For starters, try his macaroni stuffed with mushrooms and truffled foie gras, enhanced by a parmesan emulsion, his pâté en croûte, his pithiviers or his reinterpretation of the "croque", which combines poultry, marrow bone and gravy. On the main courses, the sole is highlighted by a small scallop beard sauce, but also by a creamy fennel cream and roasted fennel. As a counterpoint, the vierge de légumes is muscled with calamansi vinegar for a touch of travel, and continues with crispy rice. As for the lamb shoulder confit, it's energized by a lemon confit piquillo condiment and enhanced by a harissa jus... In short, there's never a dull moment. The desserts page opens with a very successful pistachio flan or an exotic entremet combining mango, passion fruit and pineapple. The service is efficient and friendly, and there's no mistaking the interest shown in the wine. The wine list, which offers a wide selection of organic/natural wines, is full of spirit (many VdF): auxey-duresses from Agnès Paquet; gaillac from château de Mayragues; saumur, domaine de l'Ours Bleu; reuilly from Luc Tabordet; beaujolais from Bernard Balmet; faugères from Frédéric Brouca... And don't forget our superb lunch menu.
