Dominique Crenn's good addresses

Dominique Crenn's good addresses

Dominique Crenn, a talented chef based in San Francisco, is set to open her first restaurant in Paris in 2023. Discover the best addresses of this Breton, who signs the menu of Golden Poppy in the hotel La Fantaisie.

Mathilde Bourge

Dominique Crenn is the most American of French chefs. Based in San Francisco since the age of 21, she heads several establishments across the Atlantic, including the famous Atelier Crenn. Building on her worldwide reputation, Dominique Crenn is constantly fighting for causes close to her heart, such as the environment and animal protection, as well as inclusion and acceptance in the kitchen. In 2023, the chef signed the menu of a restaurant in France for the first time: Golden Poppy, set up within the La Fantaisie hotel in the 9ᵉ arrondissement of Paris. The now Top Chef jury member reveals five favorite addresses discovered during her Parisian sojourns.

Meat from Boucherie Gardil, Paris

Jean-Paul Gardil is a benchmark butcher in Paris. Located on the Île Saint-Louis, in the heart of the capital, he promotes the best competition animals, such as lamb from Lozère, poultry from Bresse, farmhouse pork from the Basque country and duck from Challans. For Dominique Crenn, who is very careful about her meat consumption (a product she has banned from her American restaurants), selecting her products from a good butcher is a primordial thing.
► Where? Boucherie Gardil, 44 rue Saint-Louis en l'île, 75004 Paris

Bread from Boulangerie Poilâne, Paris

Sourdough breads, cakes, viennoiseries, cookies... Boulangerie Poilâne has long been a Paris staple. Dominique Crenn loves going there, and subscribes to Apollonia Poilâne's philosophy of working with finely selected, short-distance products. The bakery also offers a number of delicatessen products such as tea, jam and granola.

  • Where to buy? Boulangerie Poilâne, 8 rue du Cherche-Midi, 75006 Paris
  • www.poilane.com

La Poissonnerie Ebisu, Paris

Another good Parisian address inspired by Dominique Crenn: the Ebisu fishmonger's. This specialist in ikejime fish is also known as the "Poissonnerie Ebisu". This ikejime fish specialist offers freshly caught French products. Catered dishes can also be ordered, from traditional seafood platters to more elaborate recipes such as maki, chirashi, tarama or fish rillettes.

Wesh Grow's micro-pods in Paris

A farm in the heart of Paris? It's possible, and Wesh Grow is proving it by growing micro-pousses in the capital's 18th and 15th arrondissements. The micro-pousses widely used at La Fantaisie are baby vegetables that contain 4 to 40 times more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than their mature counterparts. Wesh Grow cultivates over 100 varieties full of flavor, always with zero pesticides, but lots of taste!

  • Where's Wesh Grow? Wesh Grow, 24 rue Raymond Queneau, 75018 Paris
  • www.wesh-grow.com

Fromagerie Gillot, Paris

Dominique Crenn rounds off this selection by recommending Guillot Fromageries. Located on the Île Saint-Louis, the store offers beautiful platters as well as a lovely selection of cheeses from all over France, of which the chef is a particular fan.
► Where? Guillot Fromageries, 76 rue Saint-Louis en l'île, 75004 Paris
