Canua Island: a floating island where you can (re)discover the cuisine of chef Thibault Sombardier

Canua Island: a floating island where you can (re)discover the cuisine of chef Thibault Sombardier

Mathieu Dubus | 8/2/24, 12:05 PM

When two former water sports stars set out to design the boat of their dreams, a rare and promising idea was born: Canua Island.

From July 12 to September 30, 2024, off the Gulf of Mandelieu-la-Napoule, it's possible to discover and enjoy an almost unparalleled experience. On this 1750 m² trimaran on two levels, the floating experience is out of the ordinary. The project was the brainchild of two sports sailors: Marc Audineau, former world number 1 49er dinghy racer, and Tony Philip, 13-time world windsurfing champion. Together, the two partners set out to create the boat of their dreams, with the ambition of offering something new on the Côte d'Azur.

A festive boat

The Canua Island is open 7 days a week, from 12 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. On board, DJs and other entertainers provide a festive summer atmosphere. Quieter areas are available around the freshwater pool, where you can relax in deckchairs or sunbeds. A cocktail bar is also available for refreshments.

A renowned chef at the helm of the kitchens

Not content with just being a boat transformed into a vacation platform, the founders of this marine jewel decided to go one step further. To serve up top-quality dishes, the two former athletes teamed up with Top Chef season 5 finalist Thibault Sombardier. Alongside his restaurants Mensae, Sellae and Mojju, the former resident of Le Meurice has created a menu of local products, including seafood, such as gambero rosso with fava beans. The menu is resolutely convivial, with plenty of plates to share, so you can enjoy good food without the fuss.
