Description

Champagne Robert Barbichon covers five villages around Gyé-sur-Seine and Celle-sur-Ource in the heart of the Côte des Bar, in the south of Champagne. The vineyards of the Barbichon and Prélat families were united here. Since 2005, Robert Barbichon et Fils produce organically farmed Champagnes, following the principles of biodynamics. With Thomas and Maxime, today the fourth generation work the land and the vines where 70% of plots have a southern exposure and the average vine age is 30 years. The majority of the grapes are Pinot Noir (77%), with also white grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc (16%), and finally Meunier (8%)

Gault&Millau's review
This house excels with red grape varieties. However, here it has crafted a grand Blanc de Blancs. The delicate, discreetly saline signature is present, and with Chardonnay it is even more floral, more airy in a way. Like a cloud in the mouth …

With our eyes closed, we could post believe this is a rosé, with so much red fruit present. A magnificent fruitiness completed by peony, sweet spices and tobacco on a background of exotic fruits. The chewy palate is saline, very fine, and remarkably delicate. Hypnotic sensations.

Gault&Millau's review
The house signature is evident in this cuvée, marked by a very delicate salinity. Nothing austere, nor explosive tension. On the contrary, one discovers the subtle salinity that delivers a sensation as if we were licking the nacre of an oyster shell. A remarkable sensation on a floral background, with red fruits too. It is a landscape at sunrise offered to us.

There are wines that cannot be described. Barbichon makes this type of wine that makes you emotional and stops you in your tracks. And this cuvée really turns you upside down. Incredible delicacy lulls you at the same time with a touch of warmth. It's like a kiss on the forehead. This is a superb, comforting wine.

Yes, there is vinosity with savoury fruitiness. Yes, there is fine and delicate salinity. But there are also very good subtle bitters, citrus fruits which whip everything up, before added gourmandise from a touch of gourmet yellow and exotic fruits.

Gault&Millau's review
This is really good, tasty, and bursting with fruit and an intense vinous character. Cheerful and generous with a floral background, but also devilishly salty and profound, it feels like a grand cru, and for the price, what are you waiting for?
