Gault&Millau's review
Based in Reims, Ruinart was officially founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, who realized the ambition of his uncle, the Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, to make it the first Champagne house. In 1760, it acquired its own chalk pits, which were listed as a historic monument in 1931. Ruinart, now part of the LVMH group, cultivates some 17 hectares of its own vineyards, and buys in large quantities of grapes (90% of its supplies), with a clear predominance of Chardonnay. Some cuvées are exclusively blanc de blancs, such as the prestigious "Dom Ruinart". Frédéric Panaïotis is the cellar master at this Unesco World Heritage Site since July 2015.
