Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët shared a passion for nature and the arts. She was a cultured young woman from a family of Norman merchants; he was a skilled winemaker and botanist. In 1811, a year after their marriage, they founded the House of Perrier-Jouët, in response to their desire to create a champagne with a difference. The founders' passion for art, nature and champagne has been passed down from generation to generation. Botanist like his father, their son Charles Perrier took over the running of the house in 1848. The family's philosophy of creativity and unconventional observation of nature is inseparable from the history of champagne. Today, these values continue to shape and define Perrier-Jouët. The house's destiny has always been shaped by bold choices, starting with the founders' decision to make Chardonnay their signature grape variety. A choice that gave birth to the delicate, floral style that has made this champagne famous the world over.
