Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
Alexandre Penet heads a 6-hectare vineyard in the Montagne de Reims, in two villages classified as Grand Cru—Verzenay and Verzy—where his mansion, complete with vaulted cellars, is located; there, he welcomes champagne enthusiasts through a variety of programs. Two-thirds of his vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir, with the remainder planted with Chardonnay, which he blends according to a meticulous system based on lieux-dits and specific plots to highlight the geology and exposures. The result is a small but exquisitely crafted range (Hypothesis, Epitome, Lieu-dit, and single-vineyard wines) that perfectly represents the terroirs of these two Grand Cru villages.
