Radical change! Experienced traveler-cook Gilles Demaure (La Baule, Quiberon, L'Aigle, Provence, the Bordeaux region...) finally settles down at home with his partner Agnès Vaillier, who ensures a warm welcome and smooth service. In the center of this rural commune, the house, extended by a veranda and a small garden, is set in very pleasant surroundings, with its astonishing 13th-century chapel and, a stone's throw away, a bucolic lake. The room, not very large, is charmingly simple. On a few evenings a week, the chef indulges himself and us with a unique menu that goes a little upmarket, while the weekday lunches are delightful and demonstrate a keen sense of cooking and pairing. The menu is classic, with, for example, a lovely bisque of scampi, colorful and tasty, accompanied by a creamy curry sauce. As for the saithe, it's boosted by a frothy butter with cockles. Perfectly healthy, the many vegetables are still a little crunchy, adding lightness to the dish. Dessert is almost vintage, but so gourmet, in the form of a fine apple tart topped with homemade buckwheat ice cream and salted butter caramel. You won't waste much time reading the wine list. But it's in keeping with the spirit of the place: menetou-salon from domaine Gilbert, muscadet from the Lieubeau family, saint-amour les Sources d'Agapé, côtes-du-rhône from domaine Fond Croze...
