Twelve sparkling wines from outside Champagne

Twelve sparkling wines from outside Champagne

It's not just in Champagne that bubbles sparkle in glasses. All over France, bubbles splash their talent on our moments of conviviality.

Justine Knapp et Laetitia Gautheron

From Beaujolais, Jura or Alsace, these sparkling wines will delight your taste buds, far from the classic sparkling wines from Champagne.

Domaine Dame Jeanne - Prémices - Extra-brut 2021 - Vin de France

Jeanne Piollot, daughter of two pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Champagne, has settled in the Châtillonnais region (north of the Côte-d'Or department). Her traditional method, based on pinot noir, is nourished by its flesh rather than its dosage. With the great depth of flavor that makes it so delicious, it stretches out in a saline, umami concentration, in a champagne-like balance.

The Bollenberg terroir is a limestone hillside bathed in a surprisingly Mediterranean micro-climate. All this gives this wine from the 2016 harvest a powerful, sunny character. The ripeness is there, with notes of lily of the valley, orange, curry and white pepper. However, the chalky, fresh character of the limestone and even the saline and grapefruit notes remain.
