Bocuse d'Or 2025: all eyes on Lyon
Lyon is currently hosting the world final of the Bocuse d'Or 2025. This international culinary event will bring together the best young chefs from all over the world to compete for the supreme title.
The world of gastronomy is holding its breath. On January 27, 2025, Lyon will host the world final of the Bocuse d'Or, a competition considered to be the "Olympics of cooking". This year, all eyes will be on the capital of the Gauls, where the world's best young chefs will come to compete.
Who will represent France at the Bocuse d'Or?
The French selection was held on September 8, 2023. Paul Marcon, Jacques' brother and Régis Marcon 's youngest son, was selected to represent France at the Bocuse d'Or Europe. He beat off five other top candidates:
- Damien Corneloup of L'Atelier Yssoirien
- Jérôme Jaegle of Restaurant Alchémille
- Edouard Loubet of Le Grizzly
- Peters Desteract of Le Kabestan
- François Vermeer-Merlen, Culinary Advisor
at the age of 28, Paul Marcon is no stranger to competitions, having taken part in his first competition, Worldskills France Finale Nationale, at the age of 16, finishing second on the podium. After working for two years in Stockholm, at the Aira restaurant run by chef Tommy Myllymäki, he is now a chef in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid (Haute-Loire).
Who won the Bocuse d'Or in 2023?
Brian Mark Hansen 's Danish team won the 2023 final. The Silver Bocuse was awarded to Norwegian chef Filip August Bendi, while the Bronze Bocuse was won by Hungary thanks to Bence Dalnoki. That year, France finished fifth in the ranking.
Since its inception, seven French chefs have won the prestigious competition, taking France to first place. The last French chef to win the Bocuse d'Or was Davy Tissot in 2021.
Who created the Bocuse d'Or?
The Bocuse d'Or is a cooking competition devised in 1987 by French chef Paul Bocuse, to coincide with the trade show that has since become Sirha Lyon. It is one of the world's most prestigious gastronomy competitions. It is held every two years, in three stages:
- Bocuse d'Or France
- Bocuse d'Or Europe
- Bocuse d'Or Monde
Three prizes are awarded each year: the Bocuse d'Or, the Bocuse d'Argent and the Bocuse de Bronze. To win the ultimate prize, you have to compete against one of 24 young chefs from all over the world, creating set dishes in 5 hours 30 minutes. A jury made up of some of the world's most illustrious chefs then decides the winner.
