Gault&Millau's review
Louis-Gilbert Penet became a winemaker in Verzy following the Great Depression of 1929, investing in cellars dug 18 meters deep, which remain at 9°C year-round. His son Jean-Marie succeeded him and created the brand. It is the union of his eldest daughter Florence and Jean-Paul Lepreux that symbolizes the current entity. The vineyard covers some 8 ha of Grand Cru on the Reims mountain, in Verzy and Verzenay, with two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. The estate claims to care for the microbial life of the soils, with a desire to combine modern production tools with traditional methods. Since 2017, the winery has been experimenting with amphora vinification.
