J. Charpentier Champagne is now run by the fifth generation, led by Marie-Pierre and her brother, Jean-Marc, an oenologist. The Charpentiers have long been committed to a philosophy of environmental stewardship. They practice 100% grass cover on their vineyards and avoid the systematic use of insecticides. They take a case-by-case approach, working with what nature provides. The winery ferments its 15 hectares in stainless steel tanks, large oak vats, or barrels, partly without malolactic fermentation, using minimal sulfites and moderate dosage.
