Gault&Millau's review
In 1897, Ernest Cazals, a cooper from the Hérault region of France, decided to settle in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Since then, three generations of winemakers have succeeded one another, faithful to tradition and open to progress. Since the death of Claude Cazals in 1996, his daughter Delphine and Claude's wife Michèle have been running the business. The Cazals vineyards (approx. 9 ha), located exclusively in the Grands Crus and Premier Crus, are planted with Chardonnay. The company also owns one of the very few clos de la Champagne, dating back to the 1950s and covering 3.70 hectares: Clos Cazals in Oger. For reasons beyond our control and that of the estate, we were unable to taste the champagnes this year, so we are reproducing last year's notes.
