Original Restaurant Le 1886, the new restaurant next to the abbey in the small village of La Celle, takes its name from the date on which the building was listed as a historic monument. In the kitchen, Benoît Gili, not quite thirty, started out in Perpignan. After a spell in a luxury establishment in Val Thorens, he spent several seasons at Mas du Langoustier, Porquerolles, working with his friend Romain Perez, the restaurant's owner. He's still groping his way around, gently jostling the local clientele with seasonings that are unfamiliar in the region, such as this crying tiger, which has been toned down so as not to upset them too much. Little by little, the menu is evolving and expanding, and this is worthy of praise and support. The linguine with Breton lobster is a hit, the risotto flambéed in Parmesan cheese is spectacular and consensual, and the wines are essentially regional. It's a lovely little address, fast becoming the local hotspot, even if the desserts could do with a little more attention.
