"Old is the new gold". This assertion, which can be read on the store fronts of many vintage specialist stores, now applies to the hotel business. Recycling has become as trendy as it is essential. Since the 2010s, a growing number of hotels have embraced this phenomenon, transformed into a veritable quest for meaning and a return to authenticity, in contrast to a world dominated by plastic and overproduction.
MOB House, Saint-Ouen
a stone's throw from the Flea Market, Cyril Aouizerate - the driving force behind the MOB group - has teamed up with Philippe Starck to design a sanctuary for the"nomads of tomorrow". Inaugurated in 2022, this establishment breaks with the codes of the standardized hotel industry by favoring natural and bio-sourced materials (wood from sustainable forests, linen, wool). The hotel also incorporates restored furniture and fixtures, proving that recycling can achieve a level of sophistication worthy of the greatest designers. The wood and terracotta frame houses rooms designed as TV-free studio offices, where plastic has been banished in favor of raw wood, natural leather and lime. It was an instant success, attracting an international clientele seduced by this"rough-and-ready" luxury that favors organic materials and local craftsmanship over transient décor.

Hôtel Le Moulin, in Lourmarin
In one of France's most beautiful villages, this former 18thᵉ century oil mill has been restored to its former glory under the impetus of the Beaumier group and by the Jaune and Be-pôles agencies. Far from Provençal pastiche, the owners opted for a rough and sunny authenticity. The original terracotta floor tiles are combined with a rigorous selection of designer furniture that seems to have been found at local flea markets, combining straw chairs and reclaimed wood. Since its reopening, the hotel has established itself as a chic, uncluttered stopover, where luxury lies not in ostentation but in the texture of a heavy linen curtain or the patina of a farmhouse table.

Les Sources de Caudalie, in Martillac
Born in 1999 from the vision of Alice and Jérôme Tourbier, this"Palace des Vignes" has become a global benchmark for French art de vivre. Set in the heart of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte estate, the hotel uses the"Buco'Chic" concept: old stones, century-old beams and barrel staves. Each room is an ode to the terroir, decorated with second-hand furniture and antiques that tell the story of the Bordeaux region. For the recent renovation of La Grange au Bateau, the hotel used antique furniture and linen fabrics reminiscent of the world of salt marshes. This exemplary success proves that luxury can be perfectly circular. Guests come for the wine therapy, but stay for the soul of this family home, which seems to have always existed.

Le Barn, Bonnelles
In the heart of the Rambouillet forest, William Kriegel and Edouard Daehn have transformed a former stud farm into a country retreat for Parisians in search of oxygen. Opened in 2018, Le Barn occupies rehabilitated former barns with an almost monastic atmosphere, where the furniture is a skilful blend of industrial design (Jieldé lamps) and vintage utilitarian pieces. The use of cork, birch plywood and raw textiles underlines a desire to take a back seat to the surrounding nature. The approach is one of relaxed, "country chic" luxury, where the patina of second-hand objects regains its letters of nobility. Exceptional locavore table.

Hidden Hotel, in Paris 17ᵉ
Behind a burnt-wood facade near the Arc de Triomphe lies this project by a passionate couple, Piet and Pascale Verbeeck. Inaugurated with the ambition of creating an atypical cocooning establishment, the hotel focuses on the nobility of its raw materials: linen, slate, cedar wood and marble. Attention to sleep is paramount here, with COCO-MAT bio-sourced mattresses made from coconut and seaweed fibers. The furniture, often carved in the mass, avoids chemical glues and varnishes. This intimate place has won over a clientele of initiates looking for a"Canadian cabin" experience in the heart of Paris.

Château de l'Épinay, Saint-Georges-sur-Loire
Owned by the Montuoro family, this 15th-century manor house combines a historic heritage with a radical ecological approach. Rather than commissioning new furniture, the owners patiently restored period pieces - Louis XV chests of drawers, mirrors and bergères - creating a tangible link with the past. The lime-rendered walls of the communal areas and the local tufa stone provide natural air-conditioning. Since its turn towards well-being and permaculture, the establishment has become a benchmark in the field, proving that château life is compatible with absolute respect for the living world. What's more? A natural swimming pool filtered by plants, without the use of chemicals.

La Grée des Landes, La Gacilly
Inaugurated in 2009 by the Yves Rocher group, this eco-hotel-spa is a pioneer of bioclimatic construction in Brittany. Nestled on a hillside, the building combines timber frames, shale or certified oak floors and green roofs, all insulated with hemp wool. Furnishings feature FSC-certified woods and organically grown textiles, while the resolutely uncluttered design places functionality and carbon restraint at the heart of every choice. Here, luxury is defined differently: by silence, pure air and the total transparency of materials; from organic bedding to treatments based on plants from the garden.

Hôtel Bourg Tibourg, Paris 4th arrondissement
Decorated by Jacques Garcia, this Marais hotel plays on a very"second-hand luxury" of accumulation. Although space is limited, opulence is everywhere, thanks to an accumulation of designer furniture and rare antiques. Garcia has drawn on the history of styles to hunt out unique pieces (there are armchairs covered in silks, side tables, etc.), noble fabrics (silk velvets, brocades) and curiosities that give the place a neo-Gothic boudoir atmosphere. Since its opening, Le Bourg Tibourg has fascinated customers with its refusal to standardize, using timeless materials that stand the test of time with Parisian elegance. An aesthete's success, dark and voluptuous.
