5 hotels for a romantic weekend

5 hotels for a romantic weekend

Lydia Bacrie | 1/27/24, 10:14 AM

Lost in the garrigues, facing the ocean or in the heart of Montmartre, these five hotels are refined, intimate and confidential refuges. Ideal for a romantic night's sleep, with the exquisite sensation of being alone in the world.

My first is a palace that hosted the filming of the legendary movie"Un homme et une femme", my second faces the divine Baie des Anges in Nice, my third is home to two sublime lodges perched amid vineyards and evergreen oaks... These hotels all have something unique about them - a location, a history and, above all, an elegance that makes them the perfect place to experience, and share, an exceptional moment. These hotels all have something unique about them - a location, a history and, above all, an elegance that makes them the perfect place to experience, and share, an exceptional moment. Hôtel Particulier Montmartre

We love this dream hotel in the heart of Montmartre, housed in a sumptuous Directoire house owned by the Comtet family for generations, and now by Oscar. Recently restored by the talented decorator Pierre Lacroix, the five suites (Grand Tralala, Jardin sur le Nil...) now unveil drapery, 1900s furniture and Art Deco mosaic bathrooms. For a romantic evening, it's best to book the most spectacular suite - the Folies du Ciel, whose glass roof opens onto the Paris skyline. A stone's throw away, the Bar à Cocktails is decked out in velvet armchairs, as is the restaurant Le Grand Salon, where you can enjoy delicious cuisine in front of the capital's largest hotel garden.

Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy

One of the finest addresses on the Normandy coast, with its majestic half-timbered façade facing the sea. Restored in 2016, the palace boasts 271 rooms and suites of refined luxury, including the"Un homme et une femme" suite, a tribute to Claude Lelouch's 1966 masterpiece, filmed in the hotel. Ideal for a weekend for two, the hotel is home to La Belle Époque restaurant, which serves delicious Normandy cuisine, and above all Le Bar du Normandy, a magical place with stained-glass windows, deep armchairs and a fireplace. And last but not least, the Diane Barrière spa, with its indoor pool topped by a glass roof.

Hotel Amour

In the heart of Nice, a love hotel that takes on the allure of a villa facing south, with 38 rooms in a sensual, cheerful atmosphere - powder-pink walls, photos of stars and subdued lighting. Designed by architect Mylène Duquenoy, the hotel also features a planted patio, a cathedral-like bar and a dreamy rooftop with a pool overlooking the azure sea. Don't miss the restaurant, which serves Mediterranean cuisine (farcis and other Niçois favourites), and the private beach below, with its striped parasols and azure deckchairs.

Dalmore Manor

This stone and granite manor house was built just over a century ago by an art-loving Australian, who imagined it in the Arts and Crafts spirit that celebrates Scottish style (Dalmore means "the great field" in Gaelic). Converted into a hotel in 2011, it has retained all its charms - beveled-tiled windows and antique furnishings decorate the 10 rooms and suites, overlooking Port Manec'h beach or the 6-hectare park. For a romantic evening, however, you'll prefer the warm and cosy gîte, warmed by a large fireplace and opening onto the ocean. A magical place, where you can feel alone in the world.

Souki - Lodges & Spa

Lost between holm oaks and garrigues, this address is home to just two lodges, "L'Arbre Perché" and "Le Nuage", luxuriously decorated and lit by bay windows that open onto their own terrace and natural infinity pool. An ideal refuge from the world of nature and intimacy, the hotel offers a catering service on request, with breakfast baskets delivered to your door each morning and filled with delicious treats. In the evening, you're invited to join the table d'hôtes, where you can enjoy a menu devised by the owners in collaboration with young local chefs, who are regularly invited. A rare address, close to some of the region's most beautiful spots, should you get the urge to go out: Pézenas, the cirque de Mourèze and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert...
