Description

Wine has been for five generations at the heart of the Berthelot family. Recently, Jacques handed over this "family heirloom" to his son Arnaud. The plotscover 16 hectares and are located in Dizy (Premier Cru) and in Aÿ (Grand Cru). In the last few years, the estate dramatically reduced the use of chemical treatments (weed controlling and fighting mildew and oïdium). Besides the classic blends of wines based on the three typical varieties of the Champagne region, the Berthelot family has, although they did not mention it before, been elaborating cuvées originating from a single plot for several years. For reasons beyond our control and that of the domain we were not able to taste the champagnes this year, therefore, we are reproducing last year's notes.

Blason d'Or

Type Brut
Millesime BSA
Title Champagne
Classification grand cru

Colour Effervescent blanc
Gault&Millau's review
A single parcel cuvée from old vines located in Aÿ and harvested in 2013. The wine is silky, concentrated, ripe and rich. The correct dosage masks the fine Champagne bitters, but overall creates good length in the mouth. The richness will match a dish prepared with cream like a Norman sole.

Cuvée Extra-Brut

Millesime BSA
Title Champagne
Classification 1er cru
Région Champagne
Colour Effervescent blanc
Gault&Millau's review
Unctuous and ripe, this cuvée is cleverly dosed at 4 g/l. Displaying a chalky and mineral texture on the palate, it will pair well with a cassolette of white pudding and chaource (cheese) cream.

Eminence

Type Brut
Millesime BSA
Gault&Millau's review

Gault&Millau's review
This 100% Meunier single parcel cuvée from the 2014 harvest has an extra brut dosage (4 g/l). The palate is both gourmand and mineral, delivering salivating chalky notes. Serve with chicken breasts with cream and candied apples.

Gault&Millau's review
A rich, tangy and unctuous Blanc de Blancs developing beautiful citrus aromas on the palate (candied citron). The blend of this cuvée is original, with the 2012 harvest vinified in barrels and the 2013 harvest in tanks. After 7 years in the cellar, this resulting ripe wine can be delivered without dosage. Enjoy with citrus scallops “à la nage” ((cooked in an aromatic court-bouillon).
