5 hotels perfect for enjoying the forest

5 hotels perfect for enjoying the forest

Pierre Gautrand | 4/29/25, 6:17 PM

Nestled among the trees or on the edge of the forest, our five favorite refuges are the perfect place to fill up on oxygen and go hiking, biking or horseback riding in the undergrowth.

Chantilly Forest: Le Grand Pavillon Chantilly

With its hamlet-like setting in the heart of the royal forest of Chantilly, this address is a destination in itself. You put down your suitcases in one of the rooms and suites housed in the sumptuous XVIIIᵉ buildings, and set off straight away to discover the forest.the 6500 hectares shaded by centuries-old oak trees, which you can explore on foot, by bike or on horseback along the many hiking trails. After this breath of fresh air, all that's left to do is recharge your batteries at the Sothys spa, with its hammam, solarium, sauna, treatment rooms and indoor pool. And to recharge your batteries, head for the Craft restaurant and its delicious bistro cuisine or, for a more chic dinner, the Table du Nord and its gourmet menu.

Loire Valley Forest: Loire Valley Lodges

Opening in 2020, Loire Valley Lodges is the brainchild of Anne-Caroline Frey, an art and nature enthusiast determined to combine her two passions. The 18 ultra-chic lodges nestling in the heart of a 300-hectare forest are a success... These perched cabins infuse a luminous, arty ambience with contemporary artworks, king-size beds and picture windows that give the impression of sleeping in the trees. No screens or wi-fi here, just a walkie-talkie to order room service or book a treatment. Unless you'd prefer to head for the old farmhouse with its swimming pool, bar-library or Ardent gourmet restaurant, led by chef Thomas Besnault. Ideal after a long walk through the undergrowth or a "forest bath", a rejuvenation session led by sylvopraticians and naturopaths.

  • Double room from 435 euros, breakfast included

Forêt de Rambouillet: Le Barn

There's no need to introduce this ideal country house address, which has been a favorite since its inauguration in 2018 and continues to attract nature lovers. It's true that the place has everything to seduce: a dream location, in the heart of a 200-hectare stud farm backing onto the Rambouillet forest, and 69 rooms with sober, elegant decor (shaker-style furniture, Barbour fabric curtains and a terrace facing the undergrowth). The spirit of the restaurant is the same, with local produce and generous seasonal cuisine served on large wooden tables in the La Verrière restaurant. A stone's throw away, the old mill houses a sauna, hammam and treatment rooms, ideal for rejuvenating after a day of horseback riding in the forest or cycling on the Chevreuse Valley trails.

Maison Heler, Philippe Starck's signature hotel opens in Metz Hotels & Bed & Breakfast

Maison Heler, Philippe Starck's signature hotel opens in Metz

With its house perched on a building, Maison Heler is unlike any other hotel. Conceived as an "inhabitable, surrealist and literary work of art", this new address intrigues as much as it fascinates. Located in the Architecture district, just a stone's throw from the Centre Pompidou, it is part of the development of the area supported by Hilton. A story of its own, born of a tale imagined by Philippe Starck. A hotel between heaven and earth The 9-storey Maison Heler is topped by a house inspired by 19th-century Lorraine architecture. From the 2nd to the 8th floor, the hotel offers 104 sleek rooms and suites. With concrete walls and pink marble, the décor is modern, elegant and poetic. The 9th floor boasts five private lounges, ideal for business events or relaxation, with a breathtaking view of the city. Two restaurants, two atmospheres On the first floor, Rose's cuisine takes the form of a romantic brasserie. Open all day, it offers warm, simple cuisine: weekly and seasonal menus, healthy, comforting dishes, and Rose's specialty: the tart of the day. Rose's Bar extends the experience, in a relaxed atmosphere, with cocktails featuring local and floral flavors. upstairs, La Maison de Manfred has a more subdued feel, with wood and leather furnishings, warm colors, a family dining room and panoramic views over Metz. Artist Ara Starck designed 19 stained-glass windows, including a monumental one, projecting cathedral-like light across the room. French contemporary cuisine is served à la carte or on a five-course menu. The more intimate Bar de Manfred offers a selection of original cocktails, including the M+R - a combination of truffle-infused cognac and cherry - as well as a wide choice of wines. A world of its own Maison Heler was inspired by the novel La Vie minutieuse de Manfred Heler , a novel imagined by, to accompany the architectural project. It follows the character of Manfred Heler, an orphan living alone in the family home, who occupies his time by dreaming up all sorts of inventions to escape boredom. One day, the earth begins to shake and his house rises above the city. The hotel immerses visitors in this poetic universe. Surreal objects, nods to imaginary inventions and unusual details punctuate the spaces between dream and everyday life. An address that offers much more than a simple stay: an immersion in a story of its own. Price: From 170 euros Where? 31 Rue Jacques Chirac, 57000 Metz
