This Breton estate is the new must-visit destination
Just outside Vannes, the Domaine du Liziec blends heritage and modernity in a setting steeped in legend. With its ancient stonework, contemporary design, and cozy atmosphere, this destination invites guests to savor a holistic experience that goes far beyond a simple hotel stay.
Just a few minutes from downtown Vannes, the Domaine du Liziec stands in the heart of a six-hectare park. Dating back to the 16th century, the estate has been completely reimagined under the guidance of brothers Laurent and Philippe Davalo, two entrepreneurs from Morbihan who fell in love with the place. The former manor house, with its preserved architectural style, embodies a traditional and deeply rooted Brittany. In contrast, the contemporary extensions designed by BAAU, an architectural firm in Saint-Brieuc, feature understated lines, extending the existing structure without ever overshadowing it. Their black and gold hues reflect the garden and the sky, evoking the passage of time and the continuity of the place. The whole forms a subtle composition, where each part naturally finds its place.

Breton Heritage and Imagination
Once through the doors, the entry hall makes a strong first impression of the space. The high ceilings define the space, light flows freely, and a monumental pendant light immediately captures the attention. Inspired by the tears of the fairies of Brocéliande—whose legend holds that they formed the Gulf of Morbihan—it sets the tone for a design that draws on local folklore without resorting to clichés.
The interior design, conceived by Nadège El Amine—whose work explores the connection between the memory of places and contemporary design—follows this narrative thread with precision. Subtle motifs, abstract artworks, and symbolic references: these elements are scattered throughout the spaces, creating a cohesive atmosphere without overshadowing the overall concept.
Outside, French-style gardens frame the views, while the woodland with its century-old trees reinforces this sense of controlled seclusion. Together, they create an almost staged setting that naturally complements the experience of the place.
A Design Philosophy Extending into the Guest Rooms
The 71 rooms and suites reflect this same attention to detail. In the contemporary sections, the spaces open up widely thanks to large floor-to-ceiling windows, letting in light and the landscape. The color palette remains natural, and materials are chosen for their understated elegance.
Certain elements give the rooms a more distinctive character: delicate pendant lights above the beds, artwork evoking the female figures of Breton legends, and golden accents that catch the light without being excessive. The rooms located upstairs, above the reception area, offer an unobstructed view of the park, reinforcing this constant connection with the outdoors.
In the historic building, the suites offer a different experience. Exposed beams, wooden furniture, and more enveloping spaces: here, the space fully embraces its heritage. The atmosphere is more intimate, almost private, while maintaining the expected level of comfort.

A Gourmet Destination
At La Table du Liziec, in an intimate dining room with warm tones accented by golden and coppery hues, Olivier Samson presents a precise, deeply expressive cuisine. Long the chef-owner of the renowned restaurant La Gourmandière in Vannes, which he ran for thirteen years, he now showcases his talent here through a remarkable menu inspired by the sea, full of depth and character. He also offers, in the lush setting of the Brasserie des Jardins, generous dishes designed for sharing that celebrate the authenticity of regional flavors.

To round out your stay, the spa offers a complete sensory experience. A heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms come together to create a relaxing sanctuary, available by reservation to ensure peace and privacy. The treatments, by Ella Baché, take on a very special dimension here under the—magical, needless to say!—fingers of the practitioners.
A charming hotel with gourmet dining set in a natural setting, the Domaine du Liziec stands out as a unique destination in the Vannes region. Awarded the Clef Verte certification, it captivates guests with the coherence of its concept, its attention to detail, and the sincerity of its offerings. A truly rejuvenating place, one you’ll leave already longing to return.
