The nose opens with iodine, then red fruit, jasmine, pear, chestnut honey and a touch of toasted buckwheat. On the palate, the wine is nicely rounded, a sign of maturity, and the bubbles are present but subtle. Spices such as gray pepper, cinnamon and pastry are present. The finish is chiselled with a lovely chewiness that whets the appetite. Ripe, woody and well-balanced, this is a champagne for a fine table.

The house draws on the history of the Leflaive family, guided by a love of Burgundian chardonnay and savoir-faire. In 2020, Valentin Leflaive settled in Oger, Champagne, in an authentic winery with a traditional ageing cellar dug into the chalk. The historic Burgundy single-vineyard approach is continued. Some of the wines are aged in old Burgundy rooms, helping to reveal the full complexity of the cuvées. On the labels, the letters express the terroir and the selection of grape variety and parcel, while the numbers illustrate the base years and dosage.
