Refuge Food Festival

Refuge Food Festival

Mathieu Dubus | 6/4/24

This Tuesday, June 4, 2024 marks the start of the Refuge Food Festival. For 20 days, refugee cooks collaborate with local restaurants in 12 French-speaking cities.

Since 2016, the Refuge Food Festival has organized an annual festival at the start of the summer season, showcasing refugee food artisans. The period is not chosen at random; it echoes International Refugee Day, which takes place on June 20. In its eight years of existence, no fewer than 60,000 people have visited the 400 restaurants that have taken part to date.

The aim of the event is to offer refugees the chance to create unique culinary collaborations. In a spirit of solidarity, the festival is also an opportunity to change the way people look at the participants. It's also a way of highlighting other culinary heritages. Last but not least, showcasing their work can accelerate their integration into the restaurant business.

This year, no fewer than 91 establishments, hotels, restaurants and food artisans took up the challenge.
