Christophe Michalak sells his pastry empire
Christophe Michalak has announced the complete sale of his eponymous company, including its Parisian boutiques and Japanese franchises. The pastry chef wishes to devote himself to a more personal project.
An important page in contemporary French patisserie is being turned. Christophe Michalak has announced the complete sale of his company, which includes his Paris boutiques as well as his Japanese franchises. Having already sold 70% of his shares in 2023, the pastry chef is now leaving the company, which is now 100% investor-owned. It's a well-considered decision that marks the end of an international entrepreneurial adventure for the man who has long embodied modern, pop and accessible patisserie.
15 years of sweet empire
at the helm of his brand, Christophe Michalak had developed a solid network: a dozen boutiques in Paris, several outlets in Japan, and a large team to support a brand that had become an essential part of the sweet landscape. A former chef at the Plaza Athénée and World Pastry Champion, he had succeeded in transforming his name into a veritable brand.
In the wake of this transfer, Christophe Michalak fully assumes his choice, citing a desire for change, as well as a need to reinvent his day-to-day professional life. The pastry chef expressed his desire to open a new chapter and devote himself to new, more personal projects, less constrained by the challenges of managing an international structure.
Now 52, the pastry chef is planning a tour of France by electric bicycle, to meet young pastry entrepreneurs and producers, make recipes and share them on social networks. An adventure to follow on his Instagram account in the coming months.
