Cagnard: the South in full plate, even under the gray skies of Paris
Even when Paris is gloomy, there's a place where the sun shines on your plate. Head for Cagnard, the must-visit Mediterranean restaurant in Paris's 10th arrondissement.
Is it raining? Is it gray? It doesn't matter. At Cagnard, the sun is indoors. This new culinary haunt breathes a southerly breeze on rue des Petits Hôtels, in Paris's 10ᵉ arrondissement. A lively, vibrant address that warms hearts with sunny dishes.
With its 75 covers and charming vintage decor - parquet flooring, terracotta floor tiles, leather banquettes and terracotta crockery - Cagnard doesn't play the folklore card, but the authentic one. The Mediterranean soul is expressed as much in the food as in the atmosphere. We come here to eat well, laugh, toast and escape.
A Mediterranean-inspired menu
In the kitchen, chefs Jules Behar and Félix Barthe orchestrate a ballet of flavours from Italy, Greece, Turkey and the south of France. All using carefully selected local produce. The result? Plates that sing. Pork belly served with a vegetable tian, anchovy yoghurt and tomato-sariette reduced juice, or stuffed zucchini with mint-pistachio pesto, round rice, currants and feta cream are just a few of the delights on offer. Particular attention is paid to vegetarian offerings, present at every service.
On the sweet side, the chocolate ganache with ribot milk ice cream, pistachio crème montée, rosemary crumble, zaatar, olive oil and pistachio reminds us that the sun can also be tasted with a spoon.
