Henri Giraud
Champagnes
Gault&Millau's review
A member of the Union des Maisons de Champagne (UMC), this family of winegrowers has been established in the village of Aÿ since the 17th century, and currently cultivates 15 hectares of Grand Cru. In keeping with the purest tradition, Henri-Giraud has had oak barrels from the Argonne region reproduced, giving its champagnes their distinctive elegance and woody discretion. Never short of innovations, the house is currently experimenting with vinification in egg-shaped vats. Everything is done to facilitate the expression of terroirs and the vibrancy of the wines. Going against the trend, Giraud guarantees "zero pesticide residue" in its Esprit cuvée, thus committing itself to a result and not just to the use of means. This is an approach to be followed closely, initiated by Claude Giraud, the dynamic gourmet who presides over the defense of Champagne ratafias and sets an example with a splendid liqueur.
