Gault&Millau's review 2026

At the foot of Mont Blanc, the Carrier family has reigned at the Hameau Albert 1er since 1903. Six generations of innkeepers serving travelers from the four corners of the globe. Pierre, Perrine and now Lucas cultivate the art of entertaining, like passing on a torch. Here, the soul is the innkeeper, the welcome "hand-sewn". Chef Damien Leveau has embraced this mountain cuisine with passion and gourmandise, while slipping in here and there a few nods to cuisine on the other side of the Alps from Menton, Nice to Turin. And sometimes, it's a perfect match: these delicate girolles are accompanied by a mushroom broth with black tea, and this Morgex Arctic char is sublimated by the juice of bones, zucchini, shiso and verbena from the garden. A real treat. Sometimes, the desire to anchor the story at all costs blurs the message a little: the poularde from Alice's farm is accompanied by a sabayon and hazelnuts. The taste is there, but a different harmony needs to be found. Valentin Garnier's desserts have contributed to the revival of the house. Now it's Jordan Pedat's turn to take over, continuing to offer airy desserts like this reine des prés de la vallée, poached blackberry and balsamic vinegar condiment. A pre-dessert that's worth much more, a creation that's sure to leave a lasting impression. The wine list is impressive, even intimidating. But if you stick to pretty Alpine white wines, you'll be able to keep your balance and avoid a soaring bill.
