Prestige Restaurant Some Alsatians may be blasé about the beauty of their villages, or even the excellence of their restaurants. This is certainly not the majority. And, for visitors, what a privilege it is to rub shoulders with this splendid Alsatian house in the picturesque setting of Riquewihr. Gault&Millau keep repeating: Jean-Luc Brendel is a great chef, in tune with the times (he's slowly but surely moved towards vegetable-based cuisine), promoting his regional culture and producers long before anyone else. And the plates follow one another with delight, under the benevolent gaze of Fabienne Brendel, who directs a precise and courteous service, always at the right distance: beet flower, horseradish ice cream, pike caviar with beautiful contrasts, explosive lettuce gazpacho, pimprenelle frost before two magnificent dishes, trout in ikejime and simple parsley and venison "rouge d'épices" and boletus buewespaetzle, with a concentrated and gourmet jus. Fresh desserts, though a touch underwhelming. Great cellar served by the excellent sommelier Anne Humbrecht.
