Gault&Millau's review2026
Adapting to the modern world, La Bastide has remained true to its foundations and primary vocation: to serve honest gastronomy to the widest possible audience. The excellent €76 lunch menu, which offers a seasonal selection of four items per level, is a success. Admittedly, at this price, which includes the ineffable charm of this superb villa with its terrace opening onto the Grasse hills, as well as a numerous and zealous staff, the wolf is farmed and the plate is maintained at a good level of three toques, but it is above all the overall service that makes the escapade to Jacques Chibois' famous bastide worthwhile. The spelt in shrimp risotto with lobster bisque makes a dish that's simple, familiar yet accomplished, the poultry is pleasant, good quality, apricot, purée, onion, peach and verbena ice cream round off the deal just right. In the evening, less choice, more prestige ingredients, the cellar is classic, not too expensive and fairly well-stocked in the region.
