Gault&Millau's review2026
In the heart of the Saint-Émilion vineyards, Château Grand Barrail impresses from the avenue of pruned cypress trees leading up to its Belle Époque façade. In fine weather, the terrace overlooking the vines lends the experience a rare, almost timeless serenity. Chef Quentin Merlet's cuisine is rooted in the terroir: a leek vinaigrette with Laleu dried duck breast, classic and well executed, followed by octopus snacked on Basquaise-style quinoa, impeccably cooked and perfectly matched with the Basquaise coulis. The banana-exotic fruit pavlova concludes on a fresh, well-balanced note. The service is smooth and professional, without ostentation. The remarkably extensive wine list pays tribute to the Bordeaux terroir, while generously embracing other French regions. A solid address with an assertive personality, fully deserving of its place in the Gironde gastronomic landscape.
