Exceptional Hotel Built on the site of a former Carthusian monastery, this century-old château was for many years the property of René Bouchart, an industrialist and world traveler who artfully recreated the atmosphere of his favorite destinations, as can still be seen in the beautiful Moorish salon. Converted into a hotel in 1993 and now under the management of the family-owned CHG Participations group, the property has recently been given a facelift by interior designer Jean-Philippe Nuel, who has created a perfect dialogue between heritage and contemporary spirit. From the moment you arrive, the tone is set with a reception area resembling a private salon, a bar nestled in the former rotunda now decorated with contemporary furniture, and the splendid glass roof linking the château to the new buildings. The 10 rooms in the 19th-century building have a historic feel (four-poster beds, etc.), while the 37 rooms in the annexes are more inspired by nature, with harmonies of green and yellow and beautiful floral-print carpets. An elegance that also infuses the majestic dining room and oriental-inspired spa, making this address one of Saint-Émilion's most attractive retreats.
