The old-fashioned charm of this vast Anglo-Norman mansion overlooking the sea is unquestionable. The Barrière group has made it a landmark of Deauville life, with the Royal a little further along the esplanade. The old woodwork, interior architecture and Vieille France atmosphere have been carefully preserved, as has the restaurant's ambience, where you can't imagine choosing anything other than classics and natural arrivals. We'll leave aside the fantasies of the century (ceviche, burrata, rigatoni with truffles or linguine with lobster) for the new generations and the players, remaining vigorously traditional with a few oysters, smoked salmon with Isigny cream, sole meunière or, in a pinch, pollack à la dieppoise. Everything is well prepared and well served, right down to the chocolate fondant or the honest tatin. An all-purpose cellar that could do with a little improvement.
