Chef's Restaurant
The Auberge, run by the vibrant Margaret Lienhardt—who trained at Lasserre and Ledoyen, among others—is a must-visit destination, as it embodies a joyful fusion of the Basque Country, its cuisine, and its warm hospitality. In this vibrant 18th-century building, “Mag”—as her (many) friends call her—offers cuisine that’s excellent value for money, a far cry from the usual excesses found along the Atlantic coast: its foie gras is remarkable, its duck confit with porcini mushrooms is a masterpiece of its kind, and its market-fresh menu, priced under 30 euros, has few rivals within a few dozen leagues. A lovely southwest-facing wine cellar and unpretentious service.
