Sota ATSUMI
Chef : 1 restaurant Japanese chef Sota Atsumi celebrates French gastronomy in his Parisian restaurant Maison by Sota Atsumi, with just the right Asian touches.Sota Atsumi was predestined to be a footballer or surfer, "but my teachers soon convinced me that it would be wiser to consider a career in catering". So, the teenager enrolled at the Tsuji school in Tokyo, then at Liergues (Rhône) in France. In 2005, he specialized in French gastronomy at Troisgros in Roanne. "I was in my element. After my internship, I knew I wouldn't be going back to Japan."
In 2006, the young man arrived in Paris, at Stella Maris. There, he progressed from commis to chef de partie under the guidance of chef Tateru Yoshino. In 2010, Sota Atsumi learned that Joël Robuchon was looking for new recruits for his famous laboratory. After six months, however, he was offered a position as sous-chef at the restaurant.
Like a fish in water in the City of Light, Sota Atsumi quickly progressed. In 2012, he obtained his first chef position at the restaurant Vivant, followed by a second at the Clown Bar. The next step is all in writing. In 2019, together with his wife and business partner Akiko, he opens Maison by Sota Atsumi, where he welcomes guests as if they were at home. Here, he celebrates French gastronomy in the true spirit of the art, infusing it with light Japanese touches. Gault&Millau awarded him a fine score of 14/20 (2 toques).
