Mélanie BARANZELLI
Chef de service : 1 restaurantBorn in the Lot-et-Garonne region of France, Mélanie Baranzelli began her career as a sommelier in the South of France, first at the Hôtel Parc Victoria in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, then at Château Eza in Èze. After a detour to the Hôtel Les Barmes de l'Ours, in Val-d'Isère, she left in 2005 for the Hostellerie de Levernois, in Burgundy. "That's whereI learned to develop my palate and sense of smell," she says.
In 2006, she joined chef Édouard Loubet at La Bastide de Capelongue, in Bonnieux (Vaucluse). "I arrived very shy. The chef taught me how to sell wine, build my self-confidence and value service," she recalls. She went on to work under Jean Sulpice in Val Thorens. It was here that she met her future husband, Alexandre.
It was with Alexandre that, in 2010, she took over the auberge La Mère Duval in Val-de-Saâne, Normandy. A year later, the restaurant is already a Gault&Millau favorite. In 2021, Mélanie and Alexandre Baranzelli become owners of a new establishment a few kilometers away, in Auzouville-sur-Saâne. La Mère Duval's new inn was a success, as was Mélanie Baranzelli, who was awarded the Gault&Millau Accueil 2023 trophy. "It's very gratifying and flattering. And above all, it's nice that the restaurant is in the limelight," she enthuses.
