Théodore LACROIX
Direction Côte des Bar, Merrey-sur-Arce. In this beautiful Champagne region of the Aube, Théodore Lacroix runs the family estate with his sister Marie-Claire.A degree in Vine and Wine Science from Dijon, a National Diploma in Oenology from Montpellier, a wealth of experience including winemaking in Australia... This is just a brief outline of the rich career of Théodore Lacroix, who returned to the family business in 2007.
Since 1987, and the first bottles "released" by Marie-Claire and Théodore's father, the estate has belonged to the "récoltant manipulant" category. In other words, from vine cultivation to marketing, nothing escapes them! Converted to organic farming, the vineyard covers nine hectares, with 50% pinot noir, 30% pinot meunier, 19% chardonnay - a large proportion for the Côte des Bar - and 1% pinot blanc. Théodore's strength? To have convictions, but never to be dogmatic! He doesn't have any immutable recipes to apply with his eyes closed. In the vineyard and in the cellar, he tests, experiments and adapts according to the year's context... In addition to the classic Biographe - with a majority of pinot noir - and Interprète - with a majority of chardonnay -, Théodore's new Interprète is also a great success. chardonnay - the domaine also produces other blends, single-varietal and single-varietal cuvées, including Mont Marvin, made exclusively from pinot meunier. Mont Marvin, like certain other cuvées, benefits from barrel ageing, "for complexity, not woodiness", says Théodore.
