Jacques BELLOT
Owner : 1 restaurantThe development of tourism in the 1970s was a determining factor in the life of Jacques Bellot. Born into a farming family in Embrun in 1969, he witnessed first-hand the upheavals that the region was undergoing at the time, particularly since the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam. "My parents quickly realized that tourism was going to be a booming industry. They opened a campsite on their land in the early 1970s, and my father became a ski instructor in Les Orres, which enabled him to work when the campsite was closed."
It was only natural that the young Jacques Bellot should focus his professional career on the world of tourism. "I was a salesman for a hotel chain, particularly in eastern France. It wasat this time that I met my future wife, Françoise, who was also a sales rep for a hotel chain."
Françoise is the daughter of an entrepreneur, and it was only natural that the young couple should set up their own business. "Our means were obviously limited, and there was no question of us buying a 4-star hotel in an ultra-touristy area. We learned that the Hotel des Peupliers, built in 1972 right next to my parents' campsite, was for sale. I wasn't too keen on the idea of returning to the land of my childhood, but Françoise was won over by the project. I followed her lead."
The couple settled in Baratier in 1999 and carried out several renovation campaigns at the establishment, while organizing their family life:"Our daughter was born a few years after we moved in. We divided the tasks equally, so that we didn't have to look after her. For example, my wife managed breakfast and lunch service, and I took care of dinner."
